This protest was by far the most successful of all. Many support staff stood in the rain to express concerns over the disastrous effects these pay cuts are going to have on their lives. BBC news northwest covered the protest as did radio Lancashire and 2BR. As usual the local papers turned up and took photographs and a piece about the protest will be in Fridays express. Our next protest will be on bank holiday Monday 7th may starting behind the town hall in burnley with a procession up to Townley hall.

I for one along with my husband, he also works for AFG simply cannot afford to lose the amount of money that AFG are proposing. I f we were afforded redundancy then we could at least pay a lump sum off our mortgage and then choose to work for less if we decided to. We will lose our home if we have the pay cuts that are being proposed but then chief execs and the likes don't care about the support workers or they would be treating us with a little more respect.
If voluntary redundancy was on the table then those that wish to work for poverty pay can do so.

Dear K.Pedder...........Perhaps if AFG asked for 'Voluntary Redundancy' then this might suit those who wish to 'stay' and those who like me cannot afford 'Poverty Pay'. I guess it all depends on your financial situation, both myself and my wife are in the same job, we stand to lose the best part of one Salary over this..........and our home ! A Third World Salary is not an option for us but I appreciate there will be those who will stay employed by AFG....................and good luck to them I say !
With Respect !

Yes Craig I understand what you are saying but i think too much emphasis is being put on redundancies, all well and good for some of us but do not let us forget those who need to keep their jobs, not everyone can afford to take redundancy.

Hi K.Pedder,
I think that the point Unison were trying to get across today is that any 'compromise' on our part, as you put it, is a slippery road to go down. Once you accept any 'Cut' in your 'Terms & Conditions' you are on a hiding to nothing. Don't forget, AFG have to save £5.1 Million......this is 'Non Negotiable' in terms of them having to save this money. The TUPE contract which AFG have taken on is the sole reason for them cutting the pay of AFG conditioned staff who are on the lowest of pay & conditions. If Tupe'd staff were given the option of 'Voluntary Redundancy' then perhaps those on AFG's terms would not need to have their paltry pay reduced yet further. Some Tupe Staff wish to be given the 'option' to leave...........I for one do not wish to work any longer than is necessary for this disgraceful outfit who peddle their 'Charity' status like some badge of honour whilst driving down the moral of those they should hold dear. There are those who cannot take this Pay Cut without losing the home they have worked hard to attain...........Redundancy or the Buying Out of their contract is the only solution to their problem. In respect of a 'Reasonable Pay Cut'..............you need to understand this Government is 'Downgrading your Worth', they will not settle for a slight cut in your Pay, they wish nothing less than to inflict 'Minimum Wage' on what they perceive to be an unskilled job of little value !
YOU need to stand up to those who have changed the very nature of the job WE do by stealth. Firstly they changed our job title from 'Nursing Assistant' to 'Health Care Assistant', then none of those fitted the bill................they removed both the 'Nurse' & the 'Health' from the job title and came up with the innocuous title of 'Support Worker'. All of this was a prelude to 'Downgrading' the very complex and worthwhile job we. Then came the final blow..............those in our care were 'Re-Categorized' from having 'Healthcare Needs' to that of being 'Social Care'....................We have been de-valued to the state of 'BABY SITTERS'.
